We're inspired by the Women at CyberNorth
Myself and a friend, Juliet, both work in the Infosec team at tombola. We recently attended a Women in Tech conference sponsored by CyberNorth in Newcastle. This is an event which showcases talented women making moves in the tech industry within the North East.
At CyberNorth, a panel of four women discussed their journey into tech and shared their own stories of working in a male dominated industry. A part of this was panel was to outline the impact of their experiences and introduce projects and opportunities that can make a positive difference.
It was a great opportunity to connect with people, ask questions and listen to like-minded people from the region. We discussed lots of big topics including how to get young women interested in tech, the difficulties of being heard or taken seriously in thee workplace among other things.
Our main reason for attending was to get some ideas on how we can implement a Women in Tech network right here, at tombola. We were motivated by the work going on across the North East and have been inspired to build a network internally to empower the women in tech at tombola, who are already working to ensure we all win together.
Juliet and I came away with some exciting ideas and techniques that we can use as a starting point and we’re looking forward to working with our Inclusion and Wellbeing team to get things off the ground.
