Raising Breast Cancer Awareness in Gibraltar
October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the tombola team in Gibraltar partnered with Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar to help raise awareness about the symptoms of breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar was established in 2007 by three women who have been personally impacted by cancer. At that time, there was little awareness of breast cancer in Gibraltar, and patients requiring tests or specialised care had to travel to the UK, as the local hospital did not have the facilities. Thanks to their efforts, the charity has raised over £400,000 for the Gibraltar Health Authority, giving local cancer patients more options and support. They also offer regular group meetings for those who want to talk and share their experiences. Additionally, they offer headwear and support bras which have kindly been provided by M&S Gibraltar.
On Tuesday 22nd October, Mercy Posso, the Chairwoman of Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar, visited our office to deliver a presentation about the charity, their fundraising efforts, and the importance of the 'Touch, Look, Check' method to spot potential signs of cancer.
At tombola, we’re all about raising breast cancer awareness and collaborating with charities that support those affected. The money raised from this event will help Breast Cancer Gibraltar keep working with the local hospital and supporting patients.
